the process of considering or reasoning about something.
1: As usual a great start and discussion in our breakout groups.
Blessed with a good group I am.
2: Critical thinking...
is most important in our time. It is required to make forward learning and positive experiences.
Makes learners engaged and moves away from being passive in relation to texts.
We discussed AI and its place in the current and future of our learners. Sharing, teaching and inserting cybersmart learning in your reading program is a good way to push the critical thinking agenda to your learners.
Google have said that Gemini and notebook IM will be available to all learners and turned on. We are able to switch off. It may be a way we can teach students how to use productively rather than being reliant.
Loved the examples and lessons that we can use to help our students navigate.
3: Higher order thinking
LEVELS OF THINKING | |
Evaluative | “Reading beyond the lines” to relate the information to other knowledge and make judgements |
Interpretative | “Reading between the lines” to interpret what the author might mean indirectly |
Literal Level | “Reading on the lines” to find out what is being said or stated directly |
Great group discussion - able to call on my WWE knowledge in a round about way, if you smell what I'm cooking.
4: Higher order
Bloom's Taxonomy
SOLO
Using these tools - lots of e.gs I can use.
5: Chicken Roll
Picked up a chicken roll on the way to school today from The Naked Baker.
Delicious
Wonder if we could do some good critical thinking about the name of this bakery. Think they were a big deal when they hit the scene. All seemed very clothed today, possibly more hygienic.
6: Middle
Lots of discussion and examples. The examples will be invaluable to extend some of my student;'s discussion skills and guide the future for me.
We reviewed provocation and read some texts around climate change. The provocation was - climate change is a hoax. We decided it wasn't thanks to the texts and Liam's clever parents.
This activity prompted me to find a colleague and share. I am looking forward to creating and using this to engage discussion in my learners. Having good provocation will be good to drive the extended element of discussion and give students clear evidence of how their discussion is going.
I had chosen some texts around advertising and picture books with clear messages that you could analyse. I also had a journal that had several stories and articles that could be used. Eventually I went for the graphic story Press 9. I feel the journal could be used to support thinking of environmental issues and themes around race. As usual a good resource.
Here is where my Grimmace Unicorns (sic) (silly) will be going in two weeks.
Etc: Finally
Time to reflect and plan ahead. Time to blog. Time to realise I am better at recording as I go when I am not distracted by the lovely cherubs in my care.
