Tech allows - no mess - must plan and checking - quick deep engagement from outset!

Young people will be content creators, not just consumers.

How - e.gs

An opportunity to create showed how I could use it with students. We had text options. We were tasked with reading the text and adding a recording to our slide. We then used an AI tool to illustrate. Here is my EG. a bit rushed but engaging for me so I feel it will increase the engagement for the tamariki. Analyzing and reflecting is the next step which allows for critical thought and using our discussion skills.

Tighter and looser

One minute video

We used guidelines to make a one minute video. Our goal was to sell a book. I used the slide record and the classic Hobbit.

I am looking forward to sharing this with the class and setting them off to do their own.

Longer create

Last week I went to a summit with Eugene sharing about using AI to support social stories in the form of a narrative.
Here he is again showing his skills and innovation. The sites are something I am champing to get onto. I am reusing and adapting resources but see great value in a website. So accessible for students and the community and a way to share with colleagues. Smarter not harder!

What will I adjust?

I feel I am a driver of creativity so the change will come with the students having more choice and agency in their own tools and tasks. I am usually pushing my own templates so letting them own will pay off. Aim for looser opportunities and offer a range of tools. I think I will try and present the next focus I have on a site to help engage, compile, store and rewind to make it visible.

  1. Hi Nick, great to hear that you were already a fan of the creativity piece in your work with students! I also liked how engaged you were in the poetry task and can reflect on how this could look for your learners. I agree that the reflect and discuss afterwards gives a nice criticality discussion to have around authorship and design choices. I look forward to seeing some one shot films from your class! I also like your decision to focus in on Choice and Agency to allow your learners more scope in the work that they produce. Finally I am really looking forward to seeing any of the website you make. I agree its a great way to have all the learning in one place. Enjoy the next 3 weeks! Kiri

  2. Kia ora Nick,

I LOVED the video! So creative. I can see how this day sparked a lot for you and set your mind whirring with what you can do with your tamariki. Thinking hard about when you want to tighten and loosen activities is key for making work flow for students. I can't wait to see what you come up with over the next few weeks with your ākonga.

    Chat soon!
